Exerpt: In this article, I conclude that this reappraisal would be more fruitful if there were a deeper appreciation of the biological and social contexts of conservation actions, particularly how both biogeography and political geography dictate different conservation tactics in different situations. I also argue for an acutarial approach to the viability of protected areas--one that considers the social factors determining the half-life of nature reserves.
