One frequent effect of the loss of predation in forests is an increase of herbivore impacts. Extraordinary levels of herbivory may trigger ecological cascades that can drastically alter the diversity of forests. Therefore ecosystems deprived of violence in the form of predation typically become degraded and simplified.
